Fashion Forward at West Coast Cooler Belfast FASHIONWEEK 2018!

Thursday, March 01, 2018

The start of a New Year signifies the beginning of many new fashion adventures, making it the perfect time to sit back and consider the direction fashion is moving in for 2018. Over the past few seasons it feels as if the world of fashion has been going through something of a reboot, with challenging silhouettes and maximalism styling taking centre stage. The search is on for new and interesting ways to dress the female form, with a distinct shift away from expected silhouettes. Whether you love or hate this new direction, it is clear to see how this fashion revolution is shaping high end designer fashion from Alessandro Michele at Gucci to Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga and how it has now filtered through to our High Street.

It’s such an exciting time in fashion and there is nothing I enjoy more than checking out the latest catwalk shows to see how traditional fashion boundaries are being pushed and explored. Some may think that this only applies to high end designer fashion, but that is certainly not the case, in fact events like West Coast Cooler Belfast FASHIONWEEK are the perfect example of this. From Independent Boutiques like Jourdan and Blush to local designers Nor Lisa and High Street favourites such as ASOS and Zara, fashionistas attending FASHIONWEEK can experience not only what it’s like to watch a catwalk show but also be inspired to think outside the box a little when it comes to styling too.

I was lucky enough to attend the recent SS'18 launch of FASHIONWEEK and was so excited by the diversity of the trends on show for the coming season!

Everything from sequins to ruffles, metallics and bold colour pops were on display as well as playful takes on tailoring and texture. SS’18 is all about having fun with your look and FASHIONWEEK certainly embodied this with their catwalk preview ahead of their main shows this March.

Throwbacks to 80’s suiting and playful cocktail dresses juxtaposed bold pops of colour creating edgy and unexpected takes on traditional silhouettes. While Athleisure and feminine pastels work together with silks and furs for a luxe take on casual attire.

Mixing textures and patterns is also strong this season, from oversized fur to flirty feathers and sparkling sequins, this trend is by no means subtle but sure is fun!

With such diverse trends there really is something for everyone this season and i’m super excited for what lies in store for the shows in March, and with such a diverse mix of events on there really is something for everyone!

Don’t forget to keep an eye on all of my social media channels for live updates direct from the catwalk and I shall see you all in March!
