Hollywood glam comes to Belfast, welcome to Christine Trueman's "ScreenLovers" Exhibition!

Art and fashion came together last week as art lovers and fashionista's alike came out in force to support local contemporary artist Christine Trueman as she launched her solo exhibition 'Screen Lovers', at an Oscar themed night in the QFT, Belfast on Sunday 24 February organised by Carrie Neely Contemporary Art. I've been a fan of Christine's artwork ever since I saw her work at another of Carrie Neely's Exhibitions, the hugely successful "Art Loves Fashion" and I for one couldn't wait to dress up in true "red carpet" Oscar style and check out her latest work!!

I arrived at the launch event (which was inspired by the Oscar's 85th Anniversary) to be greeted by Christine’s new collection of modern, electric paintings and screen prints featuring the screen sirens from the Golden Age of Hollywood Glamour such as Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn and arguably one of the most glamorous actresses of that time, Marilyn Monroe! Whilst Hollywood heart-throbs such as Clark Gable, Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart reminded us just how handsome the leading men of that era really were!!

Already recognised for her eye-popping iconic portraits of models and movie stars, 'Screen Lovers' reflects Christine’s continued journey and signature mix of simple, definable expressions with bold, highly textural colours. These colours are then infused into compositions which are abstract to varying degrees and yet are instantly recognisable. Citing Pop art and artists such as Warhol and Lichtenstein as well as local artists, free styler Neil Shawcross and bold texture fan Leo Casement, as her main influencers, Christine’s blend of hue and free textured strokes bring a vibrant freshness to her style.

At the event we were all treated to fabulous cocktails from Jameson and delicious nibbles from the event sponsor, the Californian Coffee Company as I mingled with guests and friends! It was lovely to see everyone dressed to kill, with leading lady Christine looking uber chic in the perfect LBD, and to die for sandals! Sparkle and bling was the look of the night with Denize McKeown looking dazzling in diamonds and Carrie Neely in ruby glitter shoes! Gina Potter was our lady in red and Krystina Liddell kept it glam in brocade and fur while Joyce Craig channelled her inner screen siren with her "Marilyn Monroe" print scarf!

As for myself, well once again Karen Millen was my label of choice! I opted for a chic and sexy cocktail lace mini dress (DN137) in mink pink satin, and a gold lace overlay with an obi belt inspired corset waistline! Karen Millen's metallic embellished sandals (FL136) worked perfectly with the dress and I finished the look with an Italian gold wire necklace to pick up on the gold lace and my black suede Mulberry "Bayswater" cuff tying in with the waistline and straps of my dress!!

I had a fabulous time hanging out with such glamorous ladies and it was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to see Christine's latest works of art! For anyone who missed the launch you'll be happy to know the exhibition runs in QFT, Belfast until Friday 8 March.
