Terry Bradley, The Man, The Works, The Fashion!!!

Saturday, September 29, 2012

I was lucky enough on a wet and windy night (20th Sept) to be invited to attend the Preview of Terry Bradley's latest Exhibition, aptly titled "The Works" in what is fast becoming one of Belfast's most iconic buildings, the new Titanic building!
With its highly stylized architecture and strong lines it was THE perfect location to showcase his pieces!

Upon entering the room, my guest and I were greeted by two beautiful "Bradley Angels", the stunning Finola Guinnane and Zara Shaw, who had been transformed by Award Winning Make Up Artist Paddy McGurgan into walking works of Art!

At first we were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of pieces on display, but as we steered our way through the exhibition we could clearly see the evolution of Bradley's body of work!

The exhibition chronicles Terry's career from 1996 to present day & not only charts the evolvement of his work artistically, but also how his work has progressed from canvas to such diverse areas as customized Harley Davidson’s, Bicycles, Skateboards and even Fashion, proving art is something to be enjoyed, experienced & lived with.
No longer should art be admired from afar, but rather can actually (and should be) a tangible part of everyday life!

Probably best known for his Bradley Angel’s & most recently his series on the Belfast Dockers aptly called "Sailortown", it is his art inspired by the era of the Belle Époque in France and the Burlesque dancers of New York that features most strongly in his customized clothes & accessories!

Considering that at one stage Terry even owned his own clothing store called "Retro", before becoming an artist it's not surprising that he would still have a keen interest in Fashion!

Jackets, jeans and even shoes have all had the Bradley "Makeover" as well as mobile phone cases & of course my personal favorite, two limited edition Handbags!!

Once having taken in the exhibition we then checked out the "ABSOLUT" Bradley Bar to enjoy some fabulous cocktails & I was even lucky enough to have the chance to chat to the great man himself and he even very kindly posed for a photograph!

I hope you enjoy looking at some of my photographs of his customized clothing & accessories, as well as a few of the paintings which have inspired his customized pieces! If you get the chance you must check out Terry's Exhibition at the Titanic Building which will be open to the public for the next month as it is well worth it!!!

Meeting the lovely & extremely talented Terry Bradley!!!
